Place des Halles is one of Strasbourg’s main shopping destinations. Its interactive directories help visitors find stores, services and events every day. After its first deployment, the centre upgraded its kiosks in June 2021 to ViaDirect’s V4 software. Then, in 2025, SCC chose ViaDirect once again for a third renewal.

This long-standing partnership brings several benefits. It ensures service continuity and provides a familiar interface for regular visitors. Moreover, ViaDirect’s team already knows the site and its specific needs.

What changed in the 2025 renewal

The latest renewal combines new hardware, improved visibility and simplified maintenance. Here are the main upgrades:

  • Full hardware refresh on the 5 existing kiosks: The project includes new Samsung 43″ Full HD professional screens. These displays offer 700 cd/m² brightness and support continuous operation. The upgrade also includes new Intel NUC players, VDBox units for remote monitoring and restart, and connectivity routers.
  • 2 new Gazelle 43″ structures: These replace the most worn kiosks. They also feature an illuminated PMMA mast, making each orientation point easier to spot from a distance. As a result, visitors can find them more easily in busy circulation areas.
  • Night-time installation: All dismantling, recycling and replacement work took place outside opening hours. Therefore, shoppers and tenants could continue their activities without disruption.
  • Leasing model: Realease Capital finances the renewal through a leasing solution. This approach spreads the investment over time. It also helps the centre keep its equipment up to date.

A wayfinding experience built for every visitor

The upgraded kiosks retain the features visitors already know. At the same time, they make navigation faster and more intuitive.

The software offers several key features:

  • Interactive 3D map: Visitors can explore the centre and get routes to any destination directly from the kiosk.
  • Dynamic search: Users can search by store name or browse different categories.
  • Promotions, news and events: The centre can display its latest offers and updates directly on the kiosks.
  • Three languages: The interface is available in French, English and German. This multilingual experience serves Strasbourg’s international and cross-border visitors.
  • PRM accessibility: Visitors with reduced mobility can access adapted routes. This feature supports ViaDirect’s commitment to accessible wayfinding.

Remote supervision and continuity

Each kiosk connects to ViaDirect’s remote management platform through a VDBox. This setup allows the team to monitor devices and restart them remotely when necessary.

In addition, the centre benefits from a maintenance and supervision contract. Together, these services help reduce downtime and maintain reliable digital directories. As a result, visitors can access accurate wayfinding information day after day.

Why it matters for shopping malls

Regular hardware upgrades help shopping centres protect their visitor experience. Instead of waiting for equipment to fail, managers can plan replacements ahead of time. This also helps maintain a modern image across the property.

Place des Halles illustrates the benefits of this approach. The centre combines modern hardware, a predictable leasing budget and minimal disruption during installation. Furthermore, it continues to work with a partner that understands its needs and has supported its digital wayfinding over the years.
