In a university hospital, finding your way is essential to accessing care. Patients, families, visitors, and staff need to find the right department quickly. However, navigating a hospital can be stressful, especially during a first visit.

To make navigation easier, the Mohammed VI International University Hospital (HUIM6) in Rabat has deployed an interactive wayfinding solution. It combines interactive kiosks, a 3D map, and a mobile solution accessible via QR code. As a result, patients can locate their destination and follow their route more easily.

Discover the Patient Journey at HUIM6

From booking an appointment to receiving care, each patient follows a journey that may involve several teams, specialties, and departments. In this video report, discover how HUIM6 supports patients at every stage of their care journey. You will also see how interactive screens and QR codes help visitors find their way around the hospital.

A Solution Designed for the Hospital Environment

The HUIM6 site comprises three buildings, each with three to five floors. Together with Do-it, ViaDirect’s partner in Morocco, we deployed a solution that guides visitors from the moment they arrive and throughout each floor.

The solution includes:

  • 15 interactive kiosks: Three horizontal kiosks welcome visitors at the building entrances, while 12 vertical totems are distributed across the floors. This makes useful information accessible where visitors need it.
  • A 3D map with interactive routes: The map covers all three buildings and their different levels. Thanks to touch-screen interactions, visitors can search for a destination and view their route.
  • A mobile wayfinding solution accessible via QR code: No app download is required. Patients can plan their visit or continue navigating on their smartphones.
  • A ready-to-use network: ViaDirect supplied and preconfigured the routers before shipping. This preparation helps simplify kiosk connectivity during on-site installation.

Two Languages, Two Reading Directions

HUIM6 welcomes both French- and Arabic-speaking visitors. Therefore, the kiosk interfaces and mobile solution are available in French and Arabic.

The solution also supports right-to-left reading. In addition, the interfaces adapt to both landscape and portrait screen formats, depending on the displays installed throughout the hospital.

This approach delivers a consistent experience across different devices. It also helps visitors access information in their preferred language and find their destinations more easily.

A Solution That Is Easy to Manage

Beyond helping visitors find their way, the solution gives the hospital tools to manage information and monitor usage.

Key features include:

  • An interface customized with the hospital’s branding
  • Alphabetical and thematic searches for departments and destinations
  • Direct access to the most frequently requested destinations from the main menu
  • Content pages for practical information and institutional communications
  • A back office for updating content
  • Usage statistics to monitor how visitors interact with the solution
  • Remote kiosk monitoring by ViaDirect

These features help the hospital keep information up to date and adapt content to patients’ and visitors’ needs. As a result, visitors can access relevant information throughout their journey.

Delivered in Partnership with a Local Expert

This project reflects ViaDirect’s approach: combining proven technology with the expertise of a local partner. Our solutions support visitors in more than 450 venues across 35 countries.

In Morocco, Do-it provides local support and knowledge of the hospital environment. Meanwhile, ViaDirect delivers the wayfinding software, 3D mapping, preconfigured network infrastructure, and ongoing kiosk monitoring.

Together, we can address the specific needs of healthcare facilities. In a hospital, quick access to the right information helps people navigate the site and contributes to a better experience for patients and visitors.
